Roof Ventilation

As roofs heats up throughout the day hot humid air quickly builds up and becomes trapped in the ceiling cavity, with nowhere to go this air transfers its heat through the ceiling, increasing the overall temperature inside the house.

Roof ventilation is really just letting your ceiling cavity breath, installing soffit vents which allow in fresh air, and an extraction method,(like a whirly bird), to remove the hot air.
A continuous cycle of fresh air can then flow into the cavity, as the fresh air moves its way towards the extraction point it heats up and rises, finally being sucked out the top of the roof taking heat with it.
This reduces the overall temperature inside the house and in turn the work load
of air-conditioning units, which could save you hundreds of dollars a year in electricity!
Removing the humidity will also reduce the chance of mould growing on ceilings or roof structures, which can cause permanent damage.

The insulation shown in the picture to the right - is a foil backed 60mm anticon
blanket type insulation.

Whirly Birds 

Whirly birds also known as Rotary Vents are available in all colorbond colours and are relatively cheap, quick and easy way to reduce moisture and heat from your ceiling cavity.

Whirly birds are a tried and true option, chosen by many Queensland home owners.
Correct installation of whirly birds is critical to the performance, durability and 
prevention of leaks.

The number of whirly birds per house varies depending on the size and design of the home, vented soffits will assist the whirly to preform to its maximum potential.
  

Solar Roof Extraction Fans

These mount to your roof in a similar way as a whirly bird, the unit sits very low to the roof and have a modern non-invasive look.
An internal fan powered by solar panels built into the top of the unit, dose the extracting 
and they do it well! 
Product manufactures claim these units remove a considerably larger volume of air than a whirly bird.
Solar powered extraction opposed to the wind driven means your ventilator can work at its maximum potential throughout the heat of the day, even with no breeze!
Being solar powered they don’t work at night

Solar fans are currently a more expensive option, but if you consider that one solar fans extraction volume easily exceeds several whirlybirds, the costs are very similar.
